It's Time!
Final check-in before Boston
So, how’d I do?
I took measurements during the first half 2025 to make sure I was actually progressing. It’s hard to see progress day-to-day or even week-to-week otherwise.
Turns out I made some pretty big changes and I didn’t even notice! I wasn’t tracking the actual pounds of fat, just the percentage, so I totally missed that I lost over 10 lbs of fat! (holy shit, right?)
Honestly my first draft of this blog post had much more pessimism around my fat loss, but then I chatted with AI about my numbers and it told me I lost 11 lbs of fat, which I thought was absurd. But the math checks out, and my InBody app agrees with the math Gemini came up with, so….damn, it must be true!
tldr;
Fat — -5% (11.4 lbs. of fat lost!)
Muscle — +6 lbs.
Weight — -1.3 lbs.
I thought the numbers would be bigger but weight loss is a long game. Fat loss went at a rate of 2 lbs/month, while I put on muscle at a rate of 1 lb/month. Very slow, but also very sustainable.
If you want to check out the graphs for each metric, I took some screenshots:

…and how’s everything else going?
YMCA Parkour Classes
I’m a little embarrassed I still haven’t filled out the program plan for the parkour classes I’ll be offering in the fall, but I’ve shied away from filling out the form because there are some aspects I think some of the senior coaches can weigh in on. I want to make the plan as good as it can be.
That said, the program won’t start til September, so there’s plenty of time to get it done. It’s a 1-pager.
Parkour Training
I took the past 2 weeks off because I caused a bad flare-up in my knee by doing more sprinting and jumping than I should have. It’s feeling a lot better now and I’m confident it’ll serve me well at the course.
I was honestly really worried when that happened because I knew I’d probably need to modify a lot of exercises, so I had reached out to the director of PKGen to double-check that I should still go. He said it wasn’t an issue at all and that plenty of people show up with things like patellar tendonitis, and even he’s had to deal with it before.
That put my mind at ease and made me feel better about resting up for the big day. I sincerely feel that I’ve put in all the work I need to confidently make it through the course from a parkour movement perspective.
Ending Thoughts
I’m not sure what this course will be like, but I’m excited and nervous and a little bit emotional that I made it this far. I never thought last year when I was making my New Year’s Resolutions that I’d get to go to the ADAPT Level 2 coaching course, or that I’d even be within arm’s reach of coaching my first parkour class at a YMCA.
I’m absolutely planning on blogging about the course experience itself, at least the parts I’m able to share. I’m sure plenty of it is confidential, but if nothing else, I’ll share how I feel it’s helping me grow as a coach, and whether my expectations lined up with the reality of the 5-day course experience.
I’m still self-conscious of the belly I’m bringing with me, but I’m sure I’m not the only person who’s got some chub in his 30’s lol It doesn’t detract from the strength I have as a practitioner and I might come away with a bit more self-love than before I went.
Cheers to everyone who’s helped me get here, especially my wife who’s been my hype girl throughout this whole thing.
See ya on the other side 🖖
